Federal Data Shows K-12 Enrollment Decreased in 2020

Enrollment at K-12 public schools declined by nearly 3 percent in the 2020-21 school year compared with the previous year, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. The decrease is even higher for preschool and kindergarten students, who saw a decline of more than 13 percent.
