Federal Stimulus Bill Gives Nearly $3 Billion to Private Education

On Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives approved a $1.9 trillion federal stimulus package that provides $168 billion in support to K-12 and higher education. Nearly $3 billion will be distributed among the states for governors to share with private and independent schools. It is up to each governor’s discretion as to how they will allocate the funds, but federal guidelines prohibit them from using the money to pay for private and independent school vouchers. Read more
