Lenore Pearlstein

President and Co-owner of Potomac Publishing, Inc.
Co-publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity and DiversityIS magazines
President and Founder of Campus Climate Surveys, LLC

Lenore Pearlstein is the president and co-owner of Campus Climate Surveys, LLC, and Potomac Publishing, Inc. She is also the co-publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the largest and most well-respected national diversity and inclusion publication in higher education.

The daughter of a Holocaust survivor, Pearlstein has listened to her father speak to young people since she was 16 years old. He not only tells his story of the suffering he experienced during his time in the Nazi concentration camp Bergen-Belsen, but also encourages mostly underrepresented minority and inner-city students to stay in school and get an education, something he was unable to accomplish himself. His tremendous impact on thousands of students and adults over the past 40 years motivated Pearlstein to carry on his mission to never forget the past but to also move forward and learn from his horrific experience. She remains committed to advancing this message through INSIGHT Into Diversity and her philanthropy through endowed scholarships at several universities across the country.

Pearlstein worked in public accounting from September 1979 until October 2007, when she purchased INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine (formerly the Affirmative Action Register). Since that time, she has used the magazine and website as a platform to advance the national conversation on diversity and inclusion in higher education. Featuring thought-provoking articles on current trends and relevant news; interviews with innovators, thought leaders, and experts; explorations of best practices; and profiles of successful programs and initiatives, the magazine and website engage readers with the goal of achieving a more inclusive culture on both academic and corporate campuses.

Pearlstein’s creative vision and never-ending dedication to excellence in diversity and inclusion in higher education led her to create the INSIGHT Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award in 2012. Realizing that there was no national recognition of the difficult work being done by diversity administrators in higher education, she developed a comprehensive award application that measures an institution’s level of achievement and intensity of commitment to broadening diversity and inclusion on its campus through initiatives, programs, and outreach; student recruitment, retention, and completion; and hiring practices for faculty and staff.

Since the inception of the HEED Award, Pearlstein has expanded INSIGHT Into Diversity’s recognitions to include the Giving Back Diversity Leadership Award, the Diversity Visionary Award, the Diversity Champion recognition, and the Inspiring Women in STEM Award. And in 2016, she created the Health Professions HEED Award for medical, dental, pharmacy, nursing, osteopathic, veterinary, and allied health schools.

Pearlstein has also developed Viewfinder® Campus Climate Surveys. Viewfinder® surveys enable colleges and universities to measure their diversity and inclusion strengths and weaknesses among students, faculty, staff, and administrators. The goal is to improve the recruitment and retention of students and employees, as well as create a campus environment where everyone feels safe, welcome, and respected.

Pearlstein is a 2018 “Class of Folio: 100 Honorees, The C Suite” award recipient from Folio:, an organization that honors the best and brightest minds in the magazine media industry today. In addition, she is a member of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America National Higher Education Access and Scholarship Task Force.

Pearlstein graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1979 with a bachelor of science in accounting. She resides in Bethesda, Md. with her husband Michael and has two adult children and three grandchildren.
