Medical Groups Declare ‘State of Emergency’ for Youth Mental Health

The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the Children’s Hospital Association issued a joint declaration on Tuesday warning that U.S. youth are entering a state of emergency when it comes to mental health. The statement cites a significant rise in emergency room visits for psychological distress, suicide attempts, and other indicators that reveal how the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the mental health crisis for U.S. youth.
